Members of CHARME are currently participating the plenary meeting of the ISO TC 276 - Biotechnolgy in Seoul (South Korea). At the meeting 28 countries are discussing and developping new standards in the areas of

  • terms and definitions;
  • biobanks and bioresources;
  • analytical methods;
  • bioprocessing;
  • data processing including annotation, analysis, validation, comparability and integration;

At March 20 2017 we will have a community WG meeting close to the ELIXIR annual meeting and the combined CHARME Elixir workshop. Members of CHARME are welcome to participate for contributing and discussing the proceedings of CHARME.

Combinded ISO/CHARME meeting Dublin, October 24 2016

Co-Location of a WG1 meeting at the ISO TC 276 Biotechnology Meeting in Dublin October 24-28, 2016. This will increase the visibility of the Action beyond the borders of the European Union. In addition it fits well to the overall aim of the action: to avoid duplication and overlap of existing standardization activities on the one hand and to bridge, combine and team up with other initiatives. BioData World Congress

BioDataWorld Conference
Cambridge 25-26. 10 2016.

BioData World Congress is the world's leading event for individuals working with Big Data in precision medicine.

Precision medicine is joining the big-data club. With the advent of high-throughput genomics, life scientists are starting to grapple with massive data sets, encountering challenges with handling, processing and moving information that were once the domain of astronomers and high-energy physicists.

With the advent of revolutionary high-powered computing architecture and the exponential decrease in the cost of sequencing, this new era has now truly begun with the likes of the 100k Genome Project taking center stage in the efforts to drive genomics into the clinic.

However, with the vast quantity of personal data there come challenges and questions into how to implement infrastructure and deliver this data in a usable format. Welcoming in this new generation of healthcare is a multifaceted effort requiring academics, commercial businesses, clinicians and pharmaceutical companies and of course the patients to congress and discuss how to develop this new exciting field of healthcare.

We have partnered with the worlds of leading organizations: EMBL   EBI, Genomics England, Sanger Institute and many others to deliver the BioData World Congress. The event will showcase innovation, demonstrate success and break through the obstacles and barriers to ensure that the innovations in genomics and big data enter the clinic with speed and efficiency. It will aim to make the dream of stratified medicine a reality.

Charme is organising a  PANEL DISCUSSION: Harmonising standardisation strategies to increase efficiency and competitiveness of European life sciences research (CA15110).

COST Action CHARME is co-organizing a workshop on “Reproducibility, standards and SOP in bioinformatics in collaboration with EMBNet and NETTAB. October 25-26, 2016, in Rome, Italy.

NETTAB workshops have been devoted, since 2001, to some of the most innovative ICT technologies, their adoption in bioinformatics, and related issues.Although the meeting will be focused on reproducibility in bioinformatics, it will include the usualtopics of the NETTAB workshops as well.

See the full list of topics at .

Moreover, a Special Session on "Bioinformatics Education and Training ", organized in collaboration with GOBLET and ELIXIR-ITA, will be included in the programme.

Other satellite events will be held during the week, in the same location, including a tutorial, jointly organized by ELIXIR-ITA and GOBLET, an ELIXIR Hackathon, and the EMBnet Annual Meetings.

The web site of the meeting is available at .

The first ERANet-LAC first joint call was launched in September 2014. Deadline for submission of project applications is the 27th November 2014

The ERANet-Lac was established to strengthen the bi-regional partnership between LAC countries and the countries from the European Union in Science, Technology and Innovation. The joint call provides a unique opportunity for researchers from both regions to establish new cooperations and research programmes. From Latin America 9 countries joined the ERANet-Lac, and 8 European and Associated countries.

Information about ERANet-LAC and the joint call can be found here:
